Why we choose The Peninsula New York

In the heart of Midtown, the historic Peninsula is an appealing blend of modern and timeless

  • The location is simply one of the best in town
  • Suite guests are chauffeured in Mini Cooper S Clubmans for the quickest and slickest way around the city
  • We love their Salon de Ning in summer with their outside terrace, where 1930s Shanghai meets NYC

Two words: Fifth Avenue. You don’t come to New York City to get away from it all; you come to be in the middle of it all. The Peninsula occupies fantastically central real estate so you can catch a play, do some heavy-duty shopping or visit the Central Park Zoo without spending much time in that infamous NYC traffic.

Their Junior Suites are located on the corners of the building providing great views up and down the Avenues. At 575 square feet we think these offer great value.

What you need to know about the hotel

Housed in a 1905 landmark building, the 23-story Peninsula is love at first sight

  • The signature Peninsula Suite provides over 3,000 square feet of living space with skyline views of Fifth Avenue
  • The fitness center offers exercise classes ranging from yoga to kettlebell workouts
  • The Naturally Peninsula dining concept includes gourmet light meals that help you maintain healthy eating habits on the road

The Peninsula New York has a long-standing tradition of excellence that has resulted in lots of awards and loyal customers. The aesthetics—Beaux-Art architectural features and a grand lobby staircase—wow you from the start, and the recently renovated rooms don’t disappoint from there. Speaking of the guestrooms, we recommend leaving the entry-level accommodations alone and splurging a little on one of the 54 larger, more sumptuous suites.

The hotel went all-out on the spa, which was recently named the #1 Hotel Spa by readers of Conde Nast Traveler. It’s a 35,000-square-foot, tri-level gem that includes a glass-enclosed pool. The lineup of elegant yet hip lounges is also a good bet.

Where is it and what's nearby

The Peninsula offers serious Midtown luxury on famously posh Fifth Avenue

  • Dive into high-end shopping right outside the lobby door along Fifth and Madison Avenues
  • Get the most out of Central Park’s 843 acres with guided tours including the Belvedere Castle area, conservatory garden or art
  • With many theatres within walking distance, Broadway and off-Broadway shows should be high on your to-do list

Whether you’re in the city for business or pleasure, you’d be hard pressed to find a better location than swanky Fifth Avenue and 55th Street. When you’re here, you’re within blocks (sometimes feet) of world-class shopping, museums, Central Park, the theatre district, Times Square…and the list goes on. And when you’re tired of all that, be sure to check out the amazing local restaurants—with seemingly more per square foot than any other city in the world.

And although New York City is one of the largest, most on-the-move metropolises, the Peninsula specializes in creating a resort-like atmosphere you’ll relish after battling the urban jungle.

How to enjoy New York City

Granite foundations let Manhattan soar into one of the great cities of the world. A crossroads that has welcomed new arrivals for centuries, but now is more at ease showing its softer side, but only for a ’New York Minute’ mind

  • Food, in every wonderful flavor and from every corner of the world, from early morning right through to, well, early morning
  • Nightlife that is second to none, from dancing Mormons on Broadway; to Knicks at The Garden; to Placido at The Met
  • Serious shopping to fit every budget and every style. From Tiffany & Co and the big guys on 5th to the flea markets of Brooklyn

The Big Apple is awash with ‘must-sees’ and can cater for literally every taste. You could marvel at a Matisse at MoMA, get down and dizzy at the Guggenheim’s famed spiraling architecture, take a superhero tour of movie locations and enjoy 360° views of the city from the Rockefeller Center’s observation deck. Perhaps the most moving, however, is the 9/11 Memorial at Ground Zero.

For quintessential New York try a 6th Avenue bagel before people watching over a skinny latte in the West Village. Stock up on the latest must-have Manolo Blahniks in Manhattan’s midtown before toasting Carrie’s health over lunch at Eleven Madison Park. It’s the restaurant where the Sex and the City character’s heart is broken; remember to reserve well in advance to avoid your own fully-booked heartache.

  • You need to know

At the Salon de Ning Rooftop Bar, grab a table on either the east or the west terrace and soak up the glittering views of Midtown Manhattan.

  • A word from the hotel

“The hotel’s suites are especially nice for entertaining. I suggest ordering a few items off the in-room dining menu—or let me create a special occasion menu for you—and host a small cocktail party for a few close friends during your stay.”
    Cornel Ruhland, Executive Chef

  • Awards and accolades

The Peninsula New York’s spa by ESPA has been chosen as a top Spa by Conde Naste, Travel and Leisure and Spafinder.com readers.
