Why we choose The Lowell

The Lowell is the quintessential Upper East Side address and recently redesigned landmark building

  • Nearly every room has a fully-equipped kitchen
  • Snuggle down in your cozy suite in front of a wood-burning fireplace
  • The Pembroke Room offers a pre-theatre dinner menu

With only 72 total accommodations, The Lowell is able to deliver on its promise of personalized service. For example, each guest receives a handwritten welcome card and a personalized amenity upon arrival. They’ll celebrate your child’s birthday and roll out the red carpet for your dog in an effort to create a home-like environment for everyone who walks through the door. You never have to worry about getting your money’s worth here.

We suggest

Go all out on the Garden Suite with two terraces from which to enjoy the garden.

What you need to know about the hotel

A homey yet upscale feeling is created through spacious residential suites and an intimate lobby

  • For the romantic, the 850-square-foot Garden Suite has two terraces large enough for private dining, garden-themed wallpaper and a deep soaking bathtub
  • Afternoon tea at The Lowell is popular thanks, in part, to menus that cater to different needs: the holidays, gluten-free lifestyles and children
  • In addition to great views and equipment, the fitness center has a snack station with bottled water and fresh fruits

The Lowell, which was constructed in 1927 as a 17-story apartment hotel, has an eye-catching Art Deco façade with brick and glazed terra cotta. Clearly, great care has been taken in preserving the original architecture both inside and out, though the interiors have gotten a fantastic contemporary upgrade, showcasing a blend of European classicism and American modernism.

The 23 rooms and 49 suites are uniquely conceived, many with wood-burning fireplaces, terraces and kitchens. If you’re going for all-out opulence, book the Penthouse Suite, which occupies the entire 17th floor. But The Lowell's true luxury is in its service. Thoughtful, personalized, anticipatory service is the cherry on the top at this exquisite hotel.

Where is it and what's nearby

Located on a quiet, tree-lined street off of Madison Avenue, The Lowell lets you live the genuine NYC lifestyle

  • The three Bs of upscale shopping nirvana—Bloomingdale’s, Barneys and Bergdorf-Goodman—are just a few blocks from the hotel
  • Kids of all ages love the Central Park Zoo, with its thousands of animals and memorable sea lion and penguin feedings
  • There’s always something happening at Rockefeller Center—from ice skating in the winter to year-round shopping and entertainment

An oasis in the heart of one of the world’s largest metropolises, The Lowell is a luxury boutique on the glamorous Upper East Side. Located off of Madison Avenue, it offers the best of both worlds, with a quiet tranquility that quickly gives way to the vibrant hum of the city. From here, you can easily take advantage of the sensational shopping opportunities, Central Park and Museum Mile—not to mention the million other things happening in New York City at any given moment.

How to enjoy New York City

Granite foundations let Manhattan soar into one of the great cities of the world. A crossroads that has welcomed new arrivals for centuries, but now is more at ease showing its softer side, but only for a ’New York Minute’ mind

  • Food, in every wonderful flavor and from every corner of the world, from early morning right through to, well, early morning
  • Nightlife that is second to none, from dancing Mormons on Broadway; to Knicks at The Garden; to Placido at The Met
  • Serious shopping to fit every budget and every style. From Tiffany & Co and the big guys on 5th to the flea markets of Brooklyn

The Big Apple is awash with ‘must-sees’ and can cater for literally every taste. You could marvel at a Matisse at MoMA, get down and dizzy at the Guggenheim’s famed spiraling architecture, take a superhero tour of movie locations and enjoy 360° views of the city from the Rockefeller Center’s observation deck. Perhaps the most moving, however, is the 9/11 Memorial at Ground Zero.

For quintessential New York try a 6th Avenue bagel before people watching over a skinny latte in the West Village. Stock up on the latest must-have Manolo Blahniks in Manhattan’s midtown before toasting Carrie’s health over lunch at Eleven Madison Park. It’s the restaurant where the Sex and the City character’s heart is broken; remember to reserve well in advance to avoid your own fully-booked heartache.

A note from Peter

Every Christmas we combine a NYC shopping trip with a few days at The Lowell. Barb hits the stores and I find some time to enjoy a single malt by the open fire in our room. more >
