Why we choose Gansevoort Park Avenue

The second of the Gansevoort hotels in NYC, it retains all the cool sophistication of its Meatpacking sister, with a touch of Park Avenue glamour

  • Perfect locale to access uptown and downtown destinations
  • Heated indoor/outdoor pool that morphs into a club at night
  • Grab a bite at an eatery helmed by a James Beard Award-winning chef

In both location and approach, Gansevoort Park Avenue straddles traditional elegance and contemporary edginess. That combo is likely responsible for the celebrity following this newcomer has already established. We can’t blame them for flocking to the easy-access address, hip design and unique amenities (champagne bar, anyone?).

What you need to know about the hotel

This luxury hotel caters to discriminating travelers interested in a youthful, energetic vibe

  • Asellina, the hotel’s acclaimed Italian restaurant, is a favorite among locals as well as guests
  • Get styled at Cutler Salon by the same crew that coifs runway and fashion models
  • The Windsor Park Avenue-combining upscale American, British classic and Europe’s social sensibility

Gansevoort Park Avenue opened in 2011, and the new kid on the block is dressed to kill. The beautifully designed, metropolitan resort soars 20-plus stories and boasts 249 bright rooms and suites that average 475 square feet in size. Of course, the most discerning travelers should request the 2,000-square-foot Presidential Suite, which is equipped with three bedrooms, private terrace and a bathroom that doubles as a spa.

And speaking of spas, the Gansevoort offers a full spa, large fitness center and the third NYC outpost of in-demand Cutler Salon. Like all Manhattan properties must, the hotel makes excellent use of space, including the roof. In addition to a heated year-round pool, the rooftop has a sensuous design that seamlessly transforms into a hot spot when the sun goes down.

Where is it and what's nearby

A Park Avenue location with a welcome dose of eclectic urban energy

  • Foodies will be overwhelmed (in a good way!) by a visit to nearby Eataly, celebrity chef Mario Batali’s massive Italian food and wine marketplace
  • The hotel is two blocks from the high-end shopping mecca of Fifth Avenue, densely packed with all your favorites
  • We don’t recommend leaving NYC without a theatre outing, and Gansevoort’s walking distance to the Theatre District makes it easy

New York City’s Park Avenue has long been synonymous with wealth and, let’s fact it, stuffiness. This hotel, however, is located in a section of Park Avenue north of Madison Square Park, an up and coming neighborhood that gives the Gansevoort a hip, downtown vibe.

Of course, no matter where you stay in Manhattan, literally anything you want can be yours within minutes. Haute cuisine, breathtaking museums and quintessential New York City landmarks like the Empire State Building and lively Times Square are a short walk or cab ride away. Make use of the Gansevoort’s low-key yet always helpful staff to help you create a plan for the day.

How to enjoy New York City

Granite foundations let Manhattan soar into one of the great cities of the world. A crossroads that has welcomed new arrivals for centuries, but now is more at ease showing its softer side, but only for a ’New York Minute’ mind

  • Food, in every wonderful flavor and from every corner of the world, from early morning right through to, well, early morning
  • Nightlife that is second to none, from dancing Mormons on Broadway; to Knicks at The Garden; to Placido at The Met
  • Serious shopping to fit every budget and every style. From Tiffany & Co and the big guys on 5th to the flea markets of Brooklyn

The Big Apple is awash with ‘must-sees’ and can cater for literally every taste. You could marvel at a Matisse at MoMA, get down and dizzy at the Guggenheim’s famed spiraling architecture, take a superhero tour of movie locations and enjoy 360° views of the city from the Rockefeller Center’s observation deck. Perhaps the most moving, however, is the 9/11 Memorial at Ground Zero.

For quintessential New York try a 6th Avenue bagel before people watching over a skinny latte in the West Village. Stock up on the latest must-have Manolo Blahniks in Manhattan’s midtown before toasting Carrie’s health over lunch at Eleven Madison Park. It’s the restaurant where the Sex and the City character’s heart is broken; remember to reserve well in advance to avoid your own fully-booked heartache.
