Why we choose St. Regis Princeville Resort

Tropical, serene and secluded—this is the top choice on Kauai for supreme luxury

  • Among the four restaurants is Jean-George Vonrichten eatery Kauai Grill
  • Try your luck on two world-class golf courses: Makai and Prince
  • Get signature St. Regis Butler Suite in all 51 suites

Kauai is so beautiful, Hollywood regularly comes calling. It’s been used as the backdrop to The Descendants, Jurassic Park and South Pacific, to name a few.

Amazingly, the St. Regis Princeville lives up to its superb location, thanks to a recent $165 million renovation. The overhaul was guided by the Hawaiian concept of the Ahupua‘a—a philosophy of living in balance with nature—and resulted in elements like the natural woven matting in the coffered lobby ceiling, native dark wood floors and glass panels open to the sea.

We suggest

Reserve the Bali Hai Signature Suite, a two-storey loft space named for views of the peak made famous in the 1958 film South Pacific.

What you need to know about the hotel

The St. Regis Princeville captures the essence of Kauai in every detail, from the natural decor to the cocktail flavors

  • The St. Regis afternoon tea ritual gets a tropical twist, thanks to a poolside venue and tea leaves blended with fruit nectars
  • The 5,000-square-foot outdoor infinity swimming pool is edged in lava rock and surrounded by lush landscaping and water features
  • The lavish Royal Suite features an entertainment room with a premium sound system and fully equipped kitchen with butler entrance

The St. Regis Princeville maintains the brand’s opulent traditions while also throwing in a dash of Hawaiian flair. That unconventional yet appealing combo can be seen particularly in the 251 rooms and suites—90 percent of which offer panoramic ocean views. Throughout the hotel, however, are instantly recognizable reflections of the island’s natural surroundings: the sea, sky and earth. In addition, it has the amenities people come to Hawaii to enjoy: top-notch spa, great golf and pools with bay and mountain views. All you have to do is pick one and get started.

Where is it and what's nearby

The St. Regis Princeville Resort is perched on the gorgeous northern coast of Kauai

  • Kalalau, the best known valley in Napali Coast State Park, is reached by an 11-mile trail that zigzags up and down sea cliffs
  • Tour the Limahuli Gardens and Preserve, where conservationists and restoration biologists are working to preserve plant species native to the area
  • Among the scenic highlights of a helicopter tour of Kauai: waterfalls, the Waimea Canyon, the Napali Coast and Mt. Waiale’ale’

Kauai is known as the Garden Island because, even for picturesque Hawaii, it’s considered outstandingly gorgeous and lush. On the northern coast of this scenic perfection is the St. Regis Princeville Resort, whose natural bluff location makes for incredible vistas over crystalline Hanalei Bay. From here, you can explore the communities of Kilauea and Hanalei, dive into ocean adventures like surfing and snorkeling or go horseback riding along the Na Molokama mountain range. If you’re in the mood for city-based activity, check out Hanalei’s art galleries, gift shops, restaurants and boutiques.

How to enjoy Kauai

Fern Grotto, Nounou Mountain, Wailua Falls, Waimea Canyon – take your pick from a stunning range of awe inspiring local sights

  • See the blue waters of Alekoko Fishpond, legend says it was built overnight by Kauai’s mythical little people, the Menehune
  • Catch shots of the Spouting Horn, the spectacular blow hole that spouts a huge jet of water during large swells on the Poipu coastline
  • Take a trip to the Kilauea Lighthouse on the island’s northernmost tip. In addition to great views, it’s a wildlife refuge and great for bird spotting

You’ll probably want to bring your camera when you visit Kauai. Although saying that, the island’s spectacular scenery is so amazing, it’ll probably stay imprinted in your mind’s eye long after the end of your visit. Fern Grotto is a natural lava-rock cave festooned with lush hanging ferns. Accessible only by boat and with hauntingly beautiful acoustics, it is a popular location for weddings.

Dubbed the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, the breathtaking Waimea Canyon stretches for 13 miles with steep red rock walls adorned with vibrant greens. Wailea Falls is a dramatic cascade, often graced with a rainbow. Nounou Mountain (the Sleeping Giant) provides plenty of photo opportunities along the two mile hiking trail to its peak.

    When to visit Kauai

December to May is the best time to go in search of the kohola, or humpback whale. These elegant giants of the marine world come to Hawaiian every year to breed and give birth to new calves.
