Why we choose The Breakers Palm Beach

“Iconic” isn’t too strong a word to describe this century-old salute to traditional luxury

  • There are 36 holes of championship golf, including the historic Ocean Course
  • It’s the area’s only oceanfront resort with beach access
  • Sip The Breakers’ own custom-blended, private label wines from France

This isn’t the newest, hippest thing to hit the beach scene. The Breakers has been doing classic luxury right for over 100 years, with fully customized service and a boat-load of amenities. Bottom line, there’s a level of service and luxury here that isn’t necessarily associated with North American resorts. And yes, it has a very “clubby” feel, so be sure you’re okay with that atmosphere.

What you should know about the hotel

A legendary modern-classic Palm Beach oasis that hasn’t skipped a beat staying current and fresh

  • John Webster Golf Academy features two state-of-the-art learning centers to lower your score on the resort’s courses
  • The beachfront experience includes 25 bungalows exclusively for daytime use, four oceanfront pools, four whirlpools, beach lawn, two outdoor restaurants and three bars poolside
  • It’s big—over 500 rooms and suites—but you can expect top-notch personalized service

This independent, family-owned resort has been elevating gracious living to new heights for generations. The Breakers, which is designated as a National Historic Landmark, debuted in 1896 but is hardly stuck in the past. In fact, they spend tens of millions of dollars each year on updates, and it shows. There are four pools and four whirlpools, two celebrated golf courses, eight restaurants and bars, 10 Har-tru lighted tennis courts and a long list of other amenities. Plus, the half-mile beachfront is for the exclusive use of guests and club members. Do keep in mind that the size and sheer number of activities at The Breakers makes it a bustling place—always.

Florida’s Atlantic Coast is home to the island of Palm Beach, a relatively small locale known for catering to the wealthy. And there’s arguably no property more luxurious than the prestigious Breakers. It includes 140 acres of lush landscaping, with charming courtyards and gardens, and a private, five-acre beachfront reminiscent of the French Riviera and Caribbean. This behemoth resort has everything you need for an ultra-glam vacation.

How to enjoy Palm Beach

Palm Beach’s elegant sophistication is drawn from its ‘old money’ heritage. Regular past and current visitors include the Kennedys, the Astors and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor

  • Hear the gentle lap of waves against the hulls of stunningly luxurious yachts as you enjoy a sundown cocktail at the exclusive Palm Harbor Marina
  • Find interior decoration inspiration at the former home of Palm Beach founder Henry Flagler, today the Flagler Museum
  • Experience some of the best polo in the world at a tournament hosted by one of the locally-based international clubs

Palm Beach was founded at the turn of the twentieth as a winter playground for the wealthy. Located on a barrier island and connected to the mainland via drawbridges, it retains all of the glamour and allure of its early years. This legacy is perhaps most evident in the sheer volume of exclusive leisure opportunities.

The shopping street, Worth Avenue, which drives East to West from the Atlantic Seaboard to the inshore lagoon features stores including Tiffany & Co, Gucci and Armani to name but a few. The town hosts three polo clubs and other opportunities to play range from sport fishing charters, to luxury dive charters, yachting, golf and glittering charity balls.

  • A word from the hotel

There are so many distinctive items to choose from at our resort’s eight restaurants. I recommend The Flagler Steakhouse’s not-to-be-missed, USDA Prime bone-in filet mignon, which is not readily available at most steakhouses.

  • A word from the hotel

Growing up in Boston, I first came to The Breakers as a child with my grandparents in the early 1970s, and for over a decade, our annual winter vacation at the hotel was the highlight of my year. I feel as if I grew up at the resort. Some forty years later, my life as Chief Concierge continues to be a working vacation.
