Why we choose Waldorf Astoria at Orlando

The Waldorf Astoria is a secluded world unto itself near the planet’s most famous theme parks

  • Relax in the outdoor zero-entry pool after a day of exploring
  • Tee off on an 18-hole, Rees Jones-designed championship golf course
  • A posh motorcoach transports you directly to Disney theme parks

The Waldorf Astoria is recognized as one of the world’s most elite hotel brands, so it’s no surprise to find the hotel has an exclusive ambiance. But what may surprise you is how warm and welcoming it feels. It’s the perfect retreat for people looking for a certain level of sophistication in a city typically more associated with kitsch (read: mouse ears). This hotel is an ode to everything tasteful—something you may long for at the end of the day.

We suggest

Want to enjoy the Orlando nightlife? Your children will be in capable hands at Asotria After Dark, which features evening activities and dinner in the Kids Club.

What you need to know about the hotel

Fantastic resort amenities like a championship golf course are among the Waldorf’s many selling points

  • The large private cabanas near the pool include attendant service, a flat-screen television, sunscreens and skin care products
  • The spa’s Diamond Body treatmentuses precious stones and gold-enriched creams for an utterly soothing, truly decadent experience
  • A grand foyer welcomes you to the 2,852-square-foot penthouse-level Presidential Suite, which features two furnished walk-out balconies

A new city, the same old (fabulous) Waldorf Astoria. With 498 rooms and suites, the Orlando outpost is definitely on the large side, which means they’ve added plenty of facilities and amenities to keep everyone happy. This family-friendly hotel has a pool, hot tub, golf course, fitness center, wellness classes and a top-notch spa.

Of course, it also has six restaurants and bars—including the legendary Bull & Bear—inspired by the original New York City Waldorf. The homes of original creations such as Waldorf Salad, Veal Oscar, Red Velvet Cake, Thousand Island Dressing and the Manhattan have been meticulously recreated in sunny Florida.

Where is it and what's nearby

A luxury oasis on 480 acres right next door to Disney World

  • Orlando is theme park central; in addition to the Disney World parks, choose from Sea World, Universal Studios and other fun-for-all-ages spots
  • For a little retail therapy, hit Mall at Millennia, an upscale destination with stores like Bloomingdale’s, Chanel and Louis Vuitton
  • Leu Gardens is a 50-acre botanical haven that also includes the Leu House Museum, which unveils turn-of-the century living

There’s no escaping the fact that Orlando is synonymous with The Mouse House—otherwise known as the far-reaching world of Disney. The original amusement park is called the Magic Kingdom, and as cliché as it sounds, the parks really do feel a bit magical, whether you’re three or 93. Not interested in Mickey Mouse? Orlando is also quite well known for its arts scene, with a long list of performing and visual arts venues, museums and botanical conservatories.

A little farther outside the immediate area you’ll find The Kennedy Space Center, Busch Gardens and famous Daytona Beach.

How to enjoy Orlando

Everything about Orlando is designed to delight, thrill and entertain. There is no way you cannot feel at least a frisson of pleasure in this charming heaven. Perfect for family reunions, group getaways and corporate meetings

  • Swap Mickey’s ears for Harry’s wand and enjoy the delights of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter
  • The northern tip of the Everglades touches Orlando; charter an airboat ride for some serious gator spotting
  • The NBA’s Orlando Magic are based downtown; catch a home game to see one of the Easter Conference’s major teams in action

With more theme parks than most towns have grocery stores, you could spend the majority of your Orlando trip upside down 20ft off the ground. Here’s a flavor of the choice: Walt Disney World Resort; Universal Orlando Resort; SeaWorld and Legoland. Or for a vicarious thrill, you could see the resident Cirque du Soleil troupe, La Nouba, hang 20ft upside down, without a rollbar, or safety net for that matter.

Theme parks aside, Orlando enjoys a great location in the heart of the Florida peninsula. The Atlantic Coast (home to the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral and the Daytona International Speedway at Daytona Beach) is about an hour away and the Gulf Coast with its amazing beaches at St Petersburg and Clearwater are under two.
