Why we choose Andaz West Hollywood

Andaz West Hollywood is a lifestyle hotel with hipster style and fab Sunset Strip location

  • Take a dip in the highest rooftop pool in Los Angeles
  • Schedule in-room spa services by Ole Henriksen, a top Hollywood day spa
  • Free in-room mini-bar is stocked with healthy drinks and snacks

The Andaz brand is more hip luxury than refined luxury, and perhaps nowhere is that attitude more apropos than its West Hollywood locale. The artsy mood is set through local visual art pieces, but the vibe also includes a literal vibe: music is huge in this place. The “Heard @ Andaz” music program—curated by respected DJs, musicians, producers and other industry insiders—follows you from the lounge to the fitness center to the pool. Do your best to act cool enough to fit in.

What you need to know about the hotel

Bursting with rock ‘n roll history, this trendy hotel is now a chic, elegant icon

  • Art Seen @ Andaz is a program of rotating, eclectic collections of local art that you can simply admire or purchase
  • Splurge-worthy Andaz Suites are 800-square-foot modern showpieces with abstract art and aluminum Cellula chandeliers highlighted by Swarovski crystal pendants
  • RH restaurant lets you in on the action via its open kitchen with glass walk-in coolers and refrigerators plus visible pantries

Andaz West Hollywood is the modern incarnation of the former “Riot House,” the legendary hotel where rock royalty like Jim Morrison, Led Zeppelin and Gene Simmons either lived or visited while performing at Sunset Strip clubs. It was completely gutted and re-imagined in 2009, giving rise to a contemporary landmark with 239 minimalist but plush rooms. We’re partial to View Rooms, whose sunrooms have floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Hollywood Hills, the Strip and the Los Angeles skyline.

There’s a high-tech 24-hour fitness center, but most visitors spend more time at the swanky outdoor heated pool and sundeck. Get drinks and munchies here, or head inside to sample RH’s farm-to-table, California cuisine or grab a seat at the sleek bar with eclectic cocktails and 400-bottle wine display.

Where is it and what's nearby

Andaz’s location at the base of the Hollywood Hills provides panoramic views of Los Angeles

  • Bring a picnic and watch classic films projected onto a mausoleum at Hollywood Forever Cemetery—a slightly macabre but highly unique outing
  • Rodeo Drive means upscale shopping, but don’t forget Robertson Boulevard, which has both high-end boutiques and celeb hangouts like the Ivy
  • Visit the Kodak Theater (home of the Academy Awards) for a full-on Hollywood immersion, including a glimpse of an Oscar® statuette

Across from the legendary House of Blues, Andaz West Hollywood has phenomenal city views and a glamorous rock ‘n roll aura. It’s the perfect introduction to Los Angeles, the entertainment capital of the world. Sites like the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Kodak Theater let you follow in the footsteps of your favorite stars, but there’s more to LA than movies and music. The nightlife is insanely hot, as are the shopping destinations and beaches. There’s also an impressive line-up of museums showcasing everything from modern art to iconic movie cars to La Brea Tar Pit fossils.

How to enjoy Beverly Hills

With ultra-chic designer stores and private pool-side cabañas, this is where the world comes when it needs a dose of star treatment. At the heart of 90210 and at the center of the movie industry, Beverly Hills glitters below a liberal sprinkling of stardust

  • Bring your cell, you never know who’s going to hold the elevator door for you in the hotel lobby
  • Make time for Rodeo Drive, whether you are shopping or star spotting, this street never disappoints
  • Get some me time. The city boasts some of the best stylists and spas in the country, go on pamper yourself

Beverly Hills is where many of the world’s rich and famous call home. Making sure these residents are well cared for and happy is a major local industry and can be found everywhere from exclusive bars and restaurants to world class health retreats. A meandering tour of the local area could take in plenty of famed addresses from the Playboy Mansion, to the former homes of Marlon Brando or Doris Day and the current homes of Harrison Ford, Madonna, Jack Nicholson and many more.

For an authentic Hollywood experience, head to the Hollywood & Highland Center to find the home of the Kodak Theater (Academy Awards) and great views of the Hollywood sign. To keep the whole silver screen theme going, stroll back down Hollywood Boulevard to track the path of bronze and marble stars inset into the Walk of Fame and the imprints of famous hands and feet outside the entrance to Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.

You’ve got to try our fresh, farm-to-table take on the Bloody Mary, called the Bloody Madness! Baby heirloom tomatoes muddled with our secret recipe of different spices/sauces and bacon-infused vodka. Served on the rocks with a bacon and sea-salt rim!

When my friends visit I take them to a Cinespia screening. Screenings are on Saturdays and from May to October screenings take place at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Although it may sound eerie, it’s a unique event that can only be possible on Hollywood, and Angelenos flock to it. Old Hollywood classics are projected onto a mausoleum. DJs from KCRW play sets before and after the movie. Pack a picnic basket with plenty of snack and wine.
