Why we choose St. Regis Bora Bora Resort

Escape into your own private paradise

  • Seductive overwater villas are as breathtaking as their tropical island setting
  • The private lagoonarium is a haven for exotic fish and delicate corals
  • Glass panels in the overwater restaurant highlight the passing sea life, a mesmerizing dinner show

The most spacious accommodations in the South Seas offer a host of room categories from a one-bedroom overwater bungalow to a 3-bedroom villa on its own estate, complete with private beach. It’s on our wishlist, for sure.

Exquisite, personalized service comes in the form of canoe breakfasts, candlelight dinner on the beach and your own butler service. You won’t want to miss the freshly unveiled Clarins spa, which sits on its own island in the lagoon and calls on local treasures like monoi oil and crushed pearls in its treatments.

What you need to know about the hotel

A dream destination of hibiscus flowers, palm trees, thatched roofs, luminous turquoise waters and pristine beaches

  • Exotic woods, handwoven fabrics and local art bring natural elements to each room
  • The Oasis Pool has a unique waterfall framed by the spectacular Mt Otemanu
  • After snorkeling past the jewel-bright fish on the coral reef you might feel guilty ordering the sushi

Built across three islands within a sparkling lagoon, the St. Regis Bora Bora is an expansive stretch of paradise. Inside, the décor is contemporary but relaxed, with splashes of bright, local colour. Outside, pure white sand fringes the turquoise seas, home to spectacular sharks, rays and native fish.

Where is it and what's nearby

On 44 lush acres and spread across 3 different islands, there’s plenty to explore

  • Boat and air are your only options to get to and from the resort
  • With a lagoon, private pools in some villas and glorious resort pools, the days will just swim by
  • Mount Otemanu rises up on the main island of Bora Bora, creating a dramatic sight at sunset

Romantic paradise islands in French Polynesia mean soft white sand and aquamarine lagoons. You’re not meant to do much here, other than enjoy the perfect weather, blissful spa and exquisite cuisine. But if you get itchy feet you’ll find the resort is generous, so there’s always something new around the corner, and day tours out on the resort boat or helicopter will keep you entertained.

How to enjoy French Polynesia

If you really want to get away from it all, you won’t go far wrong with French Polynesia, a scattering of 118 tiny islands and atolls, reaching across 1,000 miles of Pacific Ocean. Only 60 or so are inhabited, including Tahiti and Bora Bora. Enjoy!

  • Sink your toes into a deserted powdery white beach and wonder how any other resort could possibly have claim to the term paradise
  • Slip into the water for a refreshing dip from your overwater villa, or dive into the rich life and vivid color of the barrier reef
  • Explore the origins of tattoos, or take a piece of history home with you with an authentic traditional Polynesian tattoo

Hard not to name drop, so we’ll just get it over with: James Michener, Marlon Brando, Bill Gates, Eva Longorio, Orlando Bloom, Miranda Kerr, Ellen DeGeneres, Portia de Rossi, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban. There’s plenty more, but it would be boring to have a long list of celebs and, anyway, they deserve their privacy too. Which leads quite nicely to the next point. These tiny islands in the middle of the Pacific are miles from most telephoto lenses and are perfect for relaxing and idyllic seclusion.

The most famous of the islands are Tahiti and Bora Bora. Tahiti is synonymous with French artist Paul Gauguin and a museum on the island celebrates his work there. Covering just 11 square miles, Bora Bora is surrounded by a lagoon, barrier reef and islets giving the impression from the air of a bejeweled bracelet, inset with polished turquoise gemstones. At ground level, the impression of something precious does not fade. Bora Bora’s over-water villas are magical, offering privacy and luxury in equal measure. If lying on your day bed, soaking up the sun and soothed by the soft slap of tiny waves against the wooden legs of your villa doesn’t do it for you, get going with some of the many aquatic activities on offer.
