How to enjoy Lebanon

Lebanon’s capital has it all. Perfectly poised between the mountains and the sea, a trip to Beruit means you can swim, surf, hike or ski. Stay in the city itself to stroll the elegant boulevards and sip strong, sweet coffee in a shaded cafe terrace

  • Marvel at the extraordinary stalactites, stalagmites and undulating drapes of limestone formations at Jeita Grotto
  • Explore the Corniche, Beruit’s 3 mile seafront lined with cafes where locals smoke water pipes or play chess
  • Visit Chateau Ksara, one of Lebanon’s leading wineries located in the Beqaa Valley, founded in 1857 by Jesuit Priests

For many years, Lebanon was synonymous with war. However, the civil war that raged there between 1975 and 1990 is today well behind it. Although some relics remain, a building with a bullet hole still waiting to be filled for example, the nation today is a haven of peace. True, its borders with Syria might best be avoided, but to avoid the riches of its Mediterranean coastline would be missing something rare and special.

In the coastal cities of Sidon and Byblos (the town that gave the bible its name), dive and snorkel amongst long-submerged Phoenician ruins, or head to the hills for excellent hiking amid the olive and almond groves of Chouf. Beruit enjoys a cosmopolitan culture where boutique hotels nestle among boutique labels. Shop for Dior, Alexander McQueen, Chanel and more before exploring a souk for something a little different or unique.
