Why we choose Fairmont Mayakoba

Exclusive beachfront suites are intertwined with lush forests and graceful lagoons

  • Five outdoor pools include children-only and adults-only pools
  • Use the complimentary BMW bicycles to zip around the property
  • Two AAA Four Diamond restaurants: El Puerto and Las Brisas

Fairmont Mayakoba isn’t just another Riviera Maya luxury resort. Not only does it deliver exceptional opulence, but it does so in an eco-friendly manner that preserves the area’s natural beauty. It almost seems to have sprung up out of the ground, no doubt thanks to construction efforts that took care not to harm surrounding plants or animals. Another example: the environmentally–responsible menus that only serve sustainably harvested seafood.

We suggest

Grab an oceanfront or beach casita with rooftop plunge pool for some real wow factor.

What you need to know about the hotel

The resort sits on four distinct ecozystems: dune, water canals, tropical forest and mangrove

  • El Camaleon Golf Club includes a Greg Norman-designed course (Mexico’s only PGA course) and a Jim McLean Golf School
  • The hotel offers cooking classes for adults and kids, who learn everything from prep to proper service in their chef hats and aprons
  • Willow Stream Spa, whose treatments include local Mayan herbs and oils, features a rooftop vitality pool and sea-mineral soaking pool

The 401 posh rooms and suites—some stretching out to a pristine white beach—take full advantage of the jungles and lagoons winding through the property with the inclusion of private, furnished balconies. The rooms also indulge you with spa-style bathrooms and luxe amenities.

Outside your room is a world of activity, ranging from championship golf to tennis to a sensational spa. There are also seven restaurants and bars, each serving locally sourced, organic, sustainable items wherever possible. Keep in mind the 47-acre complex is large; it’s about a mile from the lobby to the beach.

Where is it and what's nearby

Snug and restful in its own little world, but within reach of lively Playa del Carmen

  • The nearby Tulum Mayan ruins are an archeological site with several underground water caves (cenotes), with crystal clear waters perfect for snorkeling
  • Take a boat ride through the Muyil Lagoon to a 1,000-year-old Mayan-made canal, stopping at the ruins of Xtlapak
  • The resort’s Nature Adventure introduces you to the different ecozystems at Fairmont Mayakoba, and their diverse flora and fauna

Most people love that Playa del Carmen represents a cultured lifestyle, rather than the all-night party vibe found in nearby Cancun. Playa enjoys close proximity to Mayan ruins like Tulum and Cobá, as well as underground rivers, caves and jungles—all of which can be explored via guided tour. If you’re interested in more recent civilizations, head to the upscale establishments of Quinta Avenida (5th Avenue) in the heart of the city.

How to enjoy Riviera Maya

Flanked by the glittering turquoise of the Caribbean Sea and the rich emeralds of the fertile jungle, this glorious ribbon of luxurious white sand beach resorts can rival any rivieria

  • Join a dive school or grab your snorkel for some of the best and brightest underwater displays in the world
  • Take your irons to El Camaleón golf club. The Greg Norman designed course was the first to host an official PGA Tour event in Mexico
  • Charter a helicopter to take you from the beach to the ancient Mayan pyramid of Chichén Itzá where you can enjoy a private guided tour

Stretching from Puerto Morelos in the north and Felipe Carrillo Puerto in the south, the Riviera Maya snakes along the east coast of the Yucatan peninsula, boasting miles of white sand beaches, punctuated by the odd Mayan ruin. Sumptuous luxury hotels gaze out over the sparkling Caribbean sea and provide wonderful opportunities for indulgence and relaxation.

The coastline here is a treasure trove for scuba enthusiasts who can dive the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. Rich in a variety of marine life from bright corals to groupers, angel fish and sharks, the reef is the longest in the Northern Hemisphere. For a unique diving experience, head inland to explore the cenotes, underground water-filled caverns and rivers regarded as sacred by the ancient Mayans.

    When to visit Riviera Maya

Visit in November to hear the swinging tunes of the annual Riviera Maya Jazz Festival.

  • A word from the hotel

The best way to enjoy the hotel is to take the map and go explore. Whether by foot or on a bike, there are hidden treasures everywhere you look, from the unique species of birds to the sea turtles that trek thousands of miles to nest at Mayakoba.
    Karla Erales, Director of Rooms

  • We say

A resort for all the family. Beautiful beach, great golf, and a Kid’s Club all set in generous grounds between jungle, lagoon and ocean.
