Why we choose The Ritz-Carlton, Istanbul

This high rise graces the shores of the legendary Bosphorus

  • Try the ever-changing supply of Turkish Delight at reception
  • The lobby entrance door dates to the 16th century Seljuk Turks
  • Share a quintessential memory in the Couples Hamam Suite

Istanbul is the only city on Earth located on two continents—Asia to the east and Europe to the west. The Ritz-Carlton pays homage to the rich traditions of Turkey (ie: the spa’s interpretation of a traditional hamam) while also showcasing the best of modern luxury. This is a rare case of a hotel successfully blending its host location’s culture and hospitality with the sophistication of an international five-star brand. The result is an unbeatable retreat in one of the world’s most fascinating cities.

Local culture and heritage is on full display throughout the 243-room Ritz-Carlton, Istanbul. The marble floors of the lobby reflect the early Ottoman period, while the mystical paintings from a local artist complement the Turkish carpets’ pastel colors and the antique furniture. Where is it and what's nearby

A city center hotel close to the action but with panoramic water views

  • The world’s largest covered bazaar, the Grand Bazaar has 4,000 shops where people have traded diamonds, carpets and food for centuries
  • A favorite destination is Topkapi Palace which houses the 4th largest diamond in the world, at 86 carats
  • For whistlestop visits Istanbul Ataturk International Airport is a handy 15 miles from the hotel

Istanbul is located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, and the Ritz-Carlton provides views of both with a location atop a steep hill in Taksim Square. Take every opportunity to get out and explore the city’s fabulous museums and religious sites, which capitalize on its long history and diverse cultural influences. It’s the shopping, however, where most people notice the biggest collision between ancient and modern. The Grand Bazaar and Spice Bazaar are centuries-old covered markets, for example, while the Nisantasi district boasts the same fashions you can find in Milan or on Rodeo Drive. Experience them both.

How to enjoy Turkey

Perched at the edge of Europe, Turkey has acted as a gateway between the continent and the rest of the world for many years. Centuries of exotic influence through trade and conquests can be seen in its architecture and culture

  • One of the most relaxing ways to visit bustling Istanbul is a boat trip on the Bosphorus. See the 19th Century sultan’s Palace, Dolmabahçe, Maiden’s Tower and more
  • Visit the Southern city of Adana to see the arched Roman bridge that has withstood earthquakes and battles over more than two millennia
  • Pamper yourself at the glorious Çemberlitas Hamam in Istanbul, its white marble interiors and massages to die for will feel like a real treat

Elegant Byzantine churches sit side-by-side with the ornate domes and spired minarets of mosques in the heart of Turkey’s capital, Istanbul. For a stunning example of Ottoman design, see the delicate stained glass windows and decorative tiles of the 1557 Suleymaniye Mosque. For spectacular cityscape views, head to the top of the observation tower, Galata. Built in 1384 it has been offering wonderful panoramic views for centuries.

Explore the modern, flower-scented, seafront city of Izmir. The city, along with nearby Ephesus and Pergamon enjoy a history dating back to 3000BC. See the Zeus Altar and the Artemis Temple in Izmir and the Temple of Hadrian at Ephesus before a refreshing swim in the Aegean. No trip to turkey would be complete without a mooch about the bazaars. The 1461 Grand Bazaar in Istanbul has a labyrinth of lanes and corridors selling everything from leather to ceramics, rugs and silver.
