What you need to know about the hotel

Perfect for hip travelers, this is an innovative luxury hotel where art and music are major focal points

  • One of the top bars in Madrid, the penthouse Roof Bar has an extensive menu of drinks and cocktails plus killer views
  • The Suite ME duplex features two private terraces—one with a Jacuzzi—and a tower with 360-degree views and a unique relaxation space
  • The photo art throughout the hotel doubles as a visual journey of Madrid, capturing its many elements, vibrant energy and classic architecture

Over the past 60 years, the hotel, as well as the city itself, has become the center of the bullfighting world, and ME Madrid Reina Victoria has incorporated the drama of the bullring into the hotel. The nearly 100-year-old building underwent a remodel that maintained the historic façade while updating the spaces and technologies. The result is 192 rooms that are well equipped with details like wood floors, luxe bedding, iPod docks and home movie equipment—but are a little on the small side. To upgrade your space and service, opt for a suite, which comes with ME+ exclusive services such as private check-in, unpacking and packing service, pre-dinner cocktails and an audio system with your pre-selected favorite music.

In addition to a 24-hour gym and in-demand rooftop lounge (whose bar is built into a broken stone wall), the hotel offers a Mediterranean restaurant with an open kitchen that any foodie will appreciate.

Where is it and what's nearby

This urban hotel has fabulous views of Madrid and easy access to the city’s hot spots

  • Not for the faint of heart, bullfights are nonetheless an important cultural element, and Madrid is home to the biggest bullring in Spain
  • Spanish-created tapas have gone international, but get back to their roots during a tapeo, the culinary version of a pub crawl
  • Head to the Salamanca District for exclusive shops specializing in interior design, furniture, jewelry, fur, clothing and accessories

Located in the historic Plaza de Santa Ana, ME Madrid Reina Victoria is just steps from Madrid’s major attractions like Retiro Park, the Congress building, Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace and the city’s shopping and business areas. You’ll run out of time before you run out of things to do in the Spanish capital.

Madrid is a lovely dichotomy of old and new, with centuries-old chapels and cobblestone streets vying for attention with designer shops and chic nightlife. It’s known as the city of museums, with 70-plus offerings ranging from the legendary Prado to sites dedicated to books, fabrics and military history. Madrid is also one of the greenest capital cities in the world, exemplified by flower-bedecked streets and numerous parks and gardens.

How to enjoy Madrid

Although a modern city, Madrid’s historic center has a timeless quality, where the majestic architecture nestles comfortably among the more modern structures. In the case of the Reina Sofia, modern and ancient meet seamlessly within the same building

  • Join in the traditional paseo (evening stroll) along the southernmost stretch of the Paseo de la Castellana, a wide boulevard with a lovely tree-lined walkway along its center
  • Soccer is big here and virtually revered at the iconic Bernabeu Stadium (home to Real Madrid), close to the heart of the city
  • Close to the Prado is Madrid’s green lung. The Retiro is a beautiful park with a lake and sculptures, plus plenty of welcome shade during the heat of the summer

If you love art you’ll adore Madrid. Its major museums and art galleries are bursting with old and young masters and their catalogues read like a who’s who of the art world. Here’s a taster. The Prado has Velázquez, El Greco and Goya, as well as Raphael, Titian and Tintoretto, Bosch and Rubens. Reina Sofía has Picasso’s masterpiece, Guernica, as well as Dalí, Miró and Tàpies. Thyssen-Bornemisza has Degas and Kandinsky.

If you can tear your eyes away from the art, feast them on the food. Ham is revered in this city and the excellent jamón ibérico can be found throughout from the teasing tapas to the excellent restaurants. The sumptuous deli in Mercado de San Antón is off the tourist trail. Choose the meat or fish of your desire and they’ll cook it for you upstairs in the trendy restaurant, La Cocina de San Antón.
