How to enjoy Greece

If history is your thing, Greece’s 2,500 year old relics pretty much trump any other location in the world. With more than 1,000 islands fringed with white sand dotted in the Mediterranean’s azure sea, the beach life is pretty awesome too

  • For breathtaking bays edged by stunning beaches and inspirational legends, visit Mykonos where Hercules defeated the giants
  • Savor the delights of Crete’s many seafront tavernas including meze dishes such as melt in the mouth calamari or fried gavros (whiting)
  • For panoramic views of Athens just shy of a 1,000 above the city, take the cable car to the top of Mount Lykavittos

We defy you to stand in the heart of the Agora close to the center of Athens and not feel a shiver down your spine, knowing that your feet are placed where Socrates once stood. You can also visit Aristotle’s Lyceum, or imagine what it was like for Sophocles to stage a play at the open air theater, Dionysus Eleuthereus, as you face the tiered seating yourself. The jewel in Athens’s crown of antiquities, however, is the Acropolis. It is quite literally awesome.

The largest of Greece’s many islands is Crete. It also hosts a wealth of ancient history from the ruins of the Minoan palace of Knossos to the cave that legend says was the birthplace of Zeus. The island’s south coast boasts stunning beaches and secluded coves. For iconic picture perfect views, visit Santorini. The island’s northern town of Oia enjoys horizon views of the sunset; a lovely backdrop to the white churches with their arrestingly blue domes.
