Why we choose The Reef

At-home vibe in sophisticated, privately-owned accommodations

  • Escape at The Cove is filled with haute couture clothing and accessories
  • Mandara Spa brings the “ahh” to you with in-suite therapies
  • Five celebrity chef restaurants, including Mesa Grill by Bobby Flay, and Nobu

This is the more family-friendly area of Atlantis. While the grown-ups have plenty in the way of adult fun, the kids get in on the action, too, with custom kids clubs for age ranges from toddlers to teens. The individualized clubs means your teenager and your grade schooler won’t be forced into liking the same generic “kids” activities while Mom and Dad finally get a minute to themselves.

We suggest

The Reef offers some of the best accommodations in Atlantis. You just need to pick the best type for your family size.

What you need to know about the hotel

An oceanfront escape set within miles of white sand beaches

  • Cascades Pool is a zero-entry pool with a gorgeous waterfall and poolside concierge service providing games, magazines and refreshments
  • The Tennis Club offers three har-tru courts, three hard courts, a retail store, tennis clinics and private classes
  • The Penthouses are meticulously appointed and deliver show-stopping ocean views with private terraces and personalized butler service

With 497 rooms, The Reef is a gigantic playground geared toward families—though it’s hardly difficult to find fun on an adult level. The sophisticated atmosphere showcases natural textures and contemporary artwork, and there’s even space in the generous rooms for a kitchen. The real fun begins outside your room, though, with golfing, designer shopping, beaches and 40-plus restaurants and bars. But one of the biggest draws, entertainment-wise, is the Atlantis Casino, the largest casino in the Caribbean with over 1000 of the newest slots and more than 100 gaming tables. In addition to the enormous number of readily-available activities, there’s also a concierge team on standby to help you arrange unique activities.

Keep in mind that this is very family-friendly setting. The good news is that your kids will stay occupied; the potential downside for you is that it may feel more “Disney” than “Bahamas.”

Where is it and what's nearby

The Reef Atlantis is part of the Bahamas’ Atlantis complex, located on one of the world’s most beautiful beaches

  • Aquaventure Waterpark offers 141 acres of watery fun: dozens of thrill rides, 20 swimming spots and a mile-long river ride
  • The Dig is an interactive experience that brings the mythical Atlantis to life with diverse marine habitats and a “touch tank” aquarium.
  • A day-long fishing charter—on a private fishing boat from the resort’s International Yacht Collection—lets you cast for keepers

The Reef Atlantis is nestled on the westernmost end of Atlantis on the Bahamas’ Paradise Island. It’s located just steps from the white sand Paradise beach and gives you full access to everything Atlantis has to offer. It specializes in water activities that get you unbelievably close to dolphins and other marine animals and plants. Its island location is also perfect for aquatic fun like snorkeling, diving, walking with sharks or petting a sting ray. Feeling artsy? Take a paint-your-own pottery class or scrapbook your adventures at Atlantis. Feeling sporty? Grab a golf club, tennis racquet or hit the fitness center. The possibilities are, quite possibly, endless.

How to enjoy The Bahamas

The great thing about an archipelago of 700 islands like the Bahamas is that there is bound to be at least one that is perfect for you

  • Charter a yacht to island hop between the islands and cays. Rum Cay has great surfing beaches on its north shore and Mayaguana offers peaceful solitude
  • Visit Bimini to search for the lost city of Atlantis, or follow in Hemingways’s wake to go big game fishing

New Providence is home to the Bahamian capital of Nassau. A charming city, Nassau effortlessly combines glitz (casinos and cruise ships) with a rich heritage (18th Century Fort Charlotte and pink colonial-style Government House). The island has a romantically glamorous past as it was also the sometime home of the former King of England after he abdicated to marry his American sweetheart.

The real draw, of course, is the coast. Pristine white sand, lapped by gentle turquoise water ring the islands. And there is enough of the soft white stuff to find a bit that suits you. For deserted stretches of palm-tree lined beaches, choose a private island, or head to the southern coast of New Providence. For a bit more action, such as swimming with dolphins, snorkelling, golf, casinos and nightlife, Paradise Island is a must.

    When to visit The Bahamas

Visit during the Holidays to enjoy Junkanoo. This traditional Bahamian street parade of music, dance, and art held is in Nassau (and a few other settlements) every Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, as well as Emancipation Day.

  • You need to know

When cruise ships are in, it gets crowded.

  • We say

This property is situated on the best beach in Paradise Island.
