Why we choose One&Only Ocean Club (Nassau)

Paradise Island with white gloves

  • You’ll be pampered by individual butler service
  • Fabulous tennis and golf on private, manicured grounds
  • Have afternoon tea—or a glass of vintage wine—in The Library
  • A successful blend of eclectic elements: Colonial style, French cuisine and modern luxury

You’ll leave One&Only Ocean Club better than when you arrived. Not only will you be more relaxed—thank you, magnificent cocktails—but you’ll swing a golf club like a pro, hit yoga postures more easily and appreciate the wonders of seafood like conch. A resort that gives back? Yes, please!

What you need to know about the hotel

This beachfront resort wows with its hospitality, sculpted grounds and myriad land and sea activities

  • Lose yourself in the Versailles-inspired garden with a 12th-century Augustinian cloister
  • Treat yourself to a sumptuous villa with an infinity pool and 24-hour-a-day dedicated staff—including a private chef
  • Start the day off right with yoga on the beach

While other paradise island luxury resorts are very large and commercial, One&Only sits on acres of stunningly beautiful grounds that lead down to the sea. With 105 rooms, it’s certainly not small, but it feels exclusive and extremely private.

The amenities are everything you’d want in an upscale resort: An 18-hole Tom Weiskopf-designed golf course, six Har-Tru tennis courts, an award-winning spa and much more. And just wait until it’s mealtime. We learned the hard way that reservations are always a good idea at the resort’s restaurants—they’re that popular.

Where is it and what's nearby

Blue water, white sand and tropical breezes—it’s called Paradise Island for good reason!

  • The outer islands and reefs are breathtaking, and the most luxurious way to explore them is via private yacht
  • Take a five-minute transfer to the Atlantis and get up close with dolphins in a deep or shallow water interaction
  • It’s impossible to resist the fresh seafood here, especially conch prepared with traditional Bahamian flavors

One&Only Beach Club is appropriately named, as it boasts 34 acres of manicured beauty right on the beach. You have sweeping sea views from everywhere because the sea is, well, everywhere. The resort itself was once the private estate of A&P heir Huntington Hartford II, giving guests a taste of classic Colonial plantation life. It artfully blends the grandeur of an Old World manor with the relaxed style of the Bahamas.

The island itself is gorgeous, but what thrills most visitors to Paradise Island is the water. Whether you prefer a restful day lying at the water’s edge or an active afternoon of fishing or canoeing, you can’t help but feel the pull of the Caribbean. With the reefs and diverse marine life, diving is immensely popular; the concierge staff arranges lots of diving tours for experienced divers and scuba lessons for newbies.

How to enjoy The Bahamas

The great thing about an archipelago of 700 islands like the Bahamas is that there is bound to be at least one that is perfect for you

  • Charter a yacht to island hop between the islands and cays. Rum Cay has great surfing beaches on its north shore and Mayaguana offers peaceful solitude
  • Visit Bimini to search for the lost city of Atlantis, or follow in Hemingways’s wake to go big game fishing

New Providence is home to the Bahamian capital of Nassau. A charming city, Nassau effortlessly combines glitz (casinos and cruise ships) with a rich heritage (18th Century Fort Charlotte and pink colonial-style Government House). The island has a romantically glamorous past as it was also the sometime home of the former King of England after he abdicated to marry his American sweetheart.

The real draw, of course, is the coast. Pristine white sand, lapped by gentle turquoise water ring the islands. And there is enough of the soft white stuff to find a bit that suits you. For deserted stretches of palm-tree lined beaches, choose a private island, or head to the southern coast of New Providence. For a bit more action, such as swimming with dolphins, snorkelling, golf, casinos and nightlife, Paradise Island is a must.

  • A word from the hotel

My favorite One&Only Moment was when I created a heart in the sand for a guest to serenade his wife, for a special moment they will never forget.
