Why we choose Eden Rock Hotel

An imaginative take on a five-star Caribbean resort, designed to bring out the rock star in you

  • The top-end beach villas include 24-hour butler service
  • Browse the art gallery
  • Eden Rock boasts a fashion boutique

This resort is a very chic, very “in” spot for globetrotters who can afford the Eden Rock lifestyle. The name pretty much says it all: They aim to make your experience an earthbound version of heaven—including the heavenly bodies that attend you. Whether you find it odd or extremely appealing, the resort advertises its young, good looking staff. Put that in the “plus” column if you need somewhere to look besides the gorgeous Caribbean.

What you need to know about the hotel

There’s a definite rock star vibe at Eden Rock, where the arts influence the amenities

  • Beach team arranges sun loungers and umbrellas and provide bar service and towels at the beach
  • Most notable about the 16,000 square-foot Villa Rockstar: a state of the art music recording studio and a cinema room

Eden Rock sets the tone right away by providing individual, VIP transfers to the property. Considering it was first built as a private residence 50 years ago and is now family owned, the personal attention may not be so surprising. You can pick from 34 phenomenal accommodations that include 27 rooms and suites, five villas and two ultra luxe beach villas. It feels a little disconnected because of the different room structures, but that’s also what makes it interesting.

In addition to the action at the beach, there’s a fully equipped gym (with Pilates classes and personal training), spa treatments delivered directly to your room and two restaurants managed by world-famous Master Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. The irresistible accommodations and facilities have drawn celebs ranging from Greta Garbo to today’s high-profile stars. So don’t be surprised if the neighboring villa is occupied by someone you’re used to hearing on the radio.

Where is it and what's nearby

St. Barths is a unique combination of France and the Caribbean, with a whole lot of money thrown in

  • If Eden Rock’s Eden Being boutique is not enough, head to Gustavia for Hermes, Vuitton, Bvlgari and other high-end brands
  • The living coral reef surrounding the property makes for great diving and snorkeling (with turtles!)
  • Explore the Caribbean Sea on one of the resort’s luxury boats, with room for up to 16 people

Eden Rock is located on a rocky promontory on the French island of St. Barths, about nine miles southeast of St. Maarten. The resort sits on white coral sandy beaches leading directly to the sea and a coral reef brimming with marine life. Naturally, there’s plenty to do in and around the water: stand up paddleboarding, surfing, kayaking, even massages right on the sand.

This beach-based lifestyle epitomizes the St. Barth’s approach, where even the ritziest establishment is shoes-optional.

How to enjoy St. Barths

With a distinctly French flavour, St Barths offers the kind of chic elegance and exclusivity that attracts supermodels and the superwealthy who seek a spot of downtime in exquisite surroundings

  • Head to the beach at Baie de St Jean for the ultimate place to see and be seen. For surfing, take your board to Toiny and for chilling, Grand cul de Sac is where it’s at

There are two ways to get to Saint Barthélemy. You can sail your yacht into the capital’s charming harbor, or island hop in an appropriately small aircraft (the runway is tiny) from larger neighbour, St Martin. The island’s capital, Gustavia, may be small, but it is lined with designer shops from Louis Vuitton to Longchamp. During the high season, the nightlife kicks off and there are plenty of opportunities to party till dawn. For such a small place, there is also a high concentration of sublimely talented chefs.

Although adored by celebrities for its exclusivity, this tiny French island retains a chic charm of its own making that is not forged by the glamor of its guest list. Chief among its attractions has to be its beaches. All are public and feature baby-powder soft, dazzling white sand with the clear turquoise water that is so much the calling card of Caribbean coastlines. The beaches are quiet; although for the ultimate in exclusivity, sail to Colombier Beach. It is only accessible by boat.
