Why we choose St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort

The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort is the only AAA 5 diamond resort in Puerto Rico

  • Tee off on the 18-hole Robert Trent Jones Jr. golf course
  • Try an Encanto Mary, the resort’s exclusive twist on the Bloody Mary
  • End your day with s’mores and stories by the outdoor fireplace

The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort isn’t just another pretty face. It’s also the Caribbean’s first Certified Gold Audubon Signature Sanctuary, complete with a marine biologist. Throw in butler service, nightly Champagne sabering and luxe poolside cabanas, and it’s hard to dispute the St. Regis’ claim that theirs is the best address in the Caribbean.

What you need to know about the hotel

There’s no compromise in sight at this indulgent resort, which has a unique rainforest feel

  • The oceanfront Governor’s Suite has a furnished terrace, oversized infinity tub and fully-equipped kitchen with private elevator access for the butler
  • The seaside pool and esplanade offers 11 private cabanas with flat-screen televisions, upholstered lounge chairs and renowned St. Regis butler service
  • Take a floating pathway to Remede Spa’s seven secluded massage villas, each with large picture windows framing the spa’s fire garden

Once a coconut and sugar plantation, the St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort is now a nature preserve masquerading as an opulent tropical escape. Its 139 rooms and suites have a lovely sense of place thanks to the Spanish Colonial-style décor, as well as little luxuries like walk-in closets, Bose® sound systems and marble baths.

There are plenty of upscale amenities here, but it’s also a very family friendly place. For every St. Regis Bar, for example, there’s an Iguana Kids Club. You can also choose from the Tennis Center with an onsite pro for lessons, outdoor pool, golf course, spa, four-mile hiking trail and bird sanctuary—not to mention four restaurants and bars.

Where is it and what's nearby

The resort sits on 483 acres of Puerto Rican gardens edged by two miles of Atlantic Ocean

  • El Yunque, the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System, is 28,000 acres of hiking trails, natural waterfalls and spectacular views
  • Old San Juan packs lots of history in seven square blocks: hundreds of centuries-old Spanish Colonial buildings, restored forts and museums
  • Join on-staff naturalists for bird-watching and kayaking tours on seven miles of nature trails and 63 acres of water on the resort’s grounds

The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort property is thick with 100-foot palms, almond trees and stands of sea grapes. But its waterworks are perhaps even more impressive. In addition to neighboring the Espíritu Santo, the country’s only navigable river, it’s also close to the extraordinary Fajardo Bioluminescent Bay. The resort includes two miles of sandy beach, giving rise to activities like boating, snorkeling, diving, water skiing, windsurfing, and fishing.

Not enough to do at the St. Regis? The property is a 30-minute drive from San Juan where you can enjoy Old San Juan’s colonial atmosphere, dine out at the many gourmet restaurants or spend a few hours in the extensive Plaza Las Américas shopping mall.

How to enjoy Puerto Rico

Latin rhythms, languid days and rum laced cocktails; Puerto Rico truly is a ‘rich port’, harboring a delicious melting pot of culture and history alongside some of the world’s most stunning beaches

  • Tour the Bacardi Distillery in Cataño before toasting your tour guide with a free-sample of the distillery’s world famous rum
  • Love coffee? Head to Yauco, known as El Pueblo del Café, where the town’s Alto Grande coffee enjoys the distinction of being among the world’s best
  • Choose a moonless night in Vieques to take to the water in Mosquito Bay and see the bioluminescence set the sea alight

Puerto Rico blends the very best of downtown Miami (sassy Hispanic attitude and stylish Art Deco) with the exotic allure of a tropical isle. One of the Caribbean’s Greater Antilles, the island boasts 270 miles of white sand beaches and enough Christopher Columbus history to make the Mayflower landings seem like only yesterday. Visit the 1539 El Morro fort or the 1523 church, Iglesia de San Jose, for culture that makes old town Boston look very modern.

For the ultimate Puerto Rico experience, head to downtown to Old San Juan and sample a local rum (Bacardi, Don Q, Barrilito), while the sunset adds a golden tinge to the brightly painted blue, orange, pink and green houses. Then as the evening slides inexorably into night, it will be time to get your dancing shoes on and succumb to one of the nation’s favorite pastimes: nightlife. The nation is the birthplace of piña colada, reggaetón and Ricky Martin. Enough said.
