Why we choose Tortuga Bay

Tortuga Bay’s motto—No request too big, no detail too small—isn’t an exaggeration

  • Five miles of private beach for the ultimate in seclusion
  • Villas designed by the legendary Oscar de la Renta
  • Fore! Go crazy with 48 holes of championship golf

Chic doesn’t even begin to describe Tortuga Bay. Thanks to native son Oscar de la Renta, everything from the accommodations to the restaurants have been decked out in sumptuous style. And then there’s the long list of water sports and the private beach to get lost on and the holistic spa to indulge in…you’ll need to book an extra day just to recover from the million ways the resort tries to spoil you.

What you need to know about the hotel

The only AAA Five Diamond hotel in the Dominican Republic lives up to the hype with celeb-worthy service

  • You’ll receive a special mobile phone to contact your personal villa concierge, as well as your own golf cart for getting around
  • Take a horseback ride along the beach or as part of a tour to the ecological park and reserve
  • Can’t drag yourself away from your villa? The spa will bring its signature treatments to you

The resort's VIP service starts at the airport - complimentary VIP service to whisk through immigration, luggage retrieval and customs, use of VIP lounge at the Punta Cana International Airport, and roundtrip private transportation between the Punta Cana International Airport and Tortuga Bay.

Once you arrive, you’ll find three golf courses (one designed by Tom Fazio), three outdoor pools and 14 restaurants and lounges. Have we forgotten anything? Oh yeah, the world-renowned Six Senses spa.

Even with so much to do at the resort, you’ll undoubtedly want to spend some serious time in your villa. Why? They’re individually designed by Oscar de la Renta, for starters, and include touches like luxurious Frette linens. But our favorite villa has to be the two bedroom ocean front suite that—you got it—opens right onto Tortuga Bay’s private beach.

Where is it and what's nearby

Sand and sea meet ecological wonders in Punta Cana, perhaps the best known resort area in the Dominican Republic

  • Visit nearby “Ojos Indigenas” an ecological park and reserve, for the 12 natural spring water lagoons
  • Puff away on a famed Dominican cigar while sipping world-class Dominican rum
  • Take a short shuttle ride to Punta Cana Village, where the kids can play and you can shop and eat amid Caribbean architecture

A secluded oceanfront enclave tucked into the eastern coast of the Dominican Republic, Tortuga Bay is part of 26 square miles of lush perfection that also includes The Estates, private neighborhoods that are home to international stars. This part of the island is an eco-tourist’s delight, with reserves and parks waiting to be explored.

Unlike, say, resort areas in Mexico that cater mostly to North American tourists, Punta Cana still has a very European feeling. So expect more of a Europe-meets-the-tropics atmosphere.

How to enjoy Dominican Republic

For the essence of the Dominican Republic, imagine lying in a hammock on a white sand beach, shaded by soft fringed palms, listening to the waves lap gently on the shore before dancing the night away to Latin rhythms

  • Savor world-class cuisine and fresh seafood right on the beach or overlooking the crystal clear and sparkling turquoise sea
  • Step out of your beachfront villa straight onto your stretch of private sand and enjoy uninterrupted views of the sunset as you sip cocktails from your terrace
  • Ride horseback to the entrance of the Fun Fun Cave where your 55ft descent will be rewarded by a stunning display of ancient cave paintings, stalactites and stalagmites

A former Spanish colony, this Caribbean destination enjoys a distinctly Latin feel with flamenco fiestas and local dishes accented with rice and beans. The nation is fiercely proud of its heritage and is quick to point out that the capital, Santo Domingo, was the site where Christopher Columbus first landed in the Americas in 1492.

World class beaches can be found along the East Coast, which is also home to secluded luxurious resorts and championship golf courses. There is plenty of opportunity to play. You could go kite surfing, play polo or get some pro tennis coaching. For something a little slower, cleanse you mind and body with a rejuvenating spa treatment.
