Why we choose Fairmont Pacific Rim

This Vancouver hotel incorporates the best of the Pacific Rim in its décor and culinary offerings

  • The outdoor pool is heated to 82 degrees year round
  • Italian bistro Giovane turns into a wine bar at night
  • A car and driver service waits to whisk you around town

The Fairmont Pacific Rim is a pleasant surprise in a city full of surprises. It’s got a Pacific Northwest-meets-Pacific Rim vibe that works beautifully, thanks to naturally inspired décor that embodies both influences. Cosmopolitan yet casual, the hotel is not only a hot place to stay, but it’s also a happening place to play. The Lobby Lounge has daily live entertainment and is one of the hippest spots to be on Friday and Saturday nights.

What you need to know about the hotel

State-of-the-art technology and the most luxurious suites in the city are two reasons to pick the Fairmont

  • Willow Stream Spa offers nine Zen-like treatment areas and an outdoor terrace equipped with Jacuzzis, infrared sauna and meditation pods
  • Beauty and functionality: Origami master Joseph Wu handcrafted a light fixture that runs from the lobby to hotel restaurant ORU
  • The insanely decadent Owners Suite, nicknamed the “Rock Star Suite,” has a private elevator and exclusive rooftop patio with meditation pond

The Fairmont Pacific Rim opened February of 2010, just in time to serve as a host hotel for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Your first impression is floor-to-ceiling Italian marble in the lobby; your second impression is of your oversized room. At 400 square feet, even the entry-level rooms are some of the largest in Vancouver.

As for facilities, there are three restaurants and lounges, including main restaurant ORU, which serves up Eastern flavors via a stainless steel open-concept kitchen. And we, along with legions of locals, are huge fans of Giovane’s sugar buns. Willow Stream Spa includes the usual offerings, as well as high-tech fitness center and yoga studio, a boutique and an outdoor rooftop pool with private cabanas and fire pits. No wonder it’s the only hotel in Vancouver to be included on Conde Nast Traveler’s Gold List for 2013.

Where is it and what's nearby

A downtown Vancouver hotel with great harbor views

  • Visit Stanley Park and the Aquarium near the hotel
  • Cross the longest suspended footbridge in the world in a nature park where you can also watch Native American carvers create Totem Poles
  • Trendy Robson Street is the Rodeo Drive of the North, dotted with designer boutiques from Hermes to Gucci, as well chic restaurants

Vancouver, British Columbia, is one of North America’s largest port cities. It’s a beautiful, surprisingly diverse area that has maintained its picturesque quality despite rapid growth. It boasts a sophisticated arts and cultural scene and acts as a massive playground for outdoor enthusiasts—skiing in the winter, followed by golfing, hiking, cycling and fishing in the warmer months.

Located in the heart of the financial district near Coal Harbour is where you’ll find Fairmont Pacific Rim. From here, you can choose what moves you: a trip to Granville Island for shopping and artists’ studio visits or a stroll through one of the gorgeous parks. Our pick, however, doesn’t take you out of the hotel. The Fairmont offers an art and architecture tour of its own property, complete with a guide listing a recommended sequence of stops.

How to enjoy Vancouver

With snow capped mountains and a seafront with sandy coves and rolling waves, and plenty of opportunity to play in both, it’s no surprise that Vancouver regularly tops lists of best city in the world to live

  • Half as big again as Vail, the largest resort in the US, Whistler-Blackcomb has more 8,000 acres of the powdery white stuff, plus a peak-2-peak gondola
  • Test your nerve on the Capilano Suspension Bridge. The 150 year old swaying walkway is suspended 230 feet above the white water of the Capilano River
  • For a day or night view of Vancouver and the North Shore, let the glass elevator whisk you up the 50-storeys of the Vancouver Lookout Tower

Whatever you want, it appears Vancouver can offer it. Vibrant nightlife, excellent restaurants and exquisite shopping? Head downtown where you’ll find upscale brands and Michelin stars housed within towers of glass. Savor 20 appellations of local oysters and fabulous dim sum in one of the largest Chinatowns in North America, (just one of the many cuisines you’ll find in this multicultural melting pot).

More of an outdoor type? How about a spot of heli-skiing. snowboarding, hiking, mountain biking, sea kayaking, paddle boarding, and white water rafting? Or shift gear and go whale watching or otter spotting. The rainforest wilds of Stanley Park touches the western edge of the city. The ski resort of Grouse Mountains is just 15 minutes out of town and the summer and winter playground of the Olympic resort Whistler is within a two-hour drive.
