Where is it and what's nearby

Located within the Golden Square Mile, in the heart of downtown Montreal

  • Just steps from Montreal’s high end boutiques, galleries and museums
  • Word has it this is Canada’s Cuisine Capital, so try the bold unique flavors that have gone global

Montreal is a city of fun and activity, and whenever you visit you will likely discover the excitement of the city’s own Cirque du Soleil, or the International Jazz Festival or one of myriad winter festivals: Igloofest and the Fête des Neiges.

How to enjoy Canada: French-speaking

Canada’s francophone capital melds cosmopolitan chic with old world charm and a healthy dose of the cutting edge arts to create a city that is as vibrant and welcoming as it is sophisticated

  • The Old Port is the perfect location for a spot of people-watching, while drinking hot chocolate or chilled wine
  • The latticework Biosphere - an imposing geodesic dome on Saint Helen’s Island - offers multimedia shows and amazing skyline views
  • The Plateau is the place to go for cafe culture and unique boutiques. In winter, stay warm and visit downtown stores and malls via the underground passageways

The best way of getting your bearings as you navigate your way around a town is to get up high. Montreal, rather thoughtfully perhaps, has provided a hill with a lookout point just for that very purpose. Hike to the top of Mont Royal, to be found in the heart of the park with the same name and enjoy panoramic views of the city and St Lawrence River.

Head deeper into the French-speaking region to visit the walled town of Quebec City. In addition to the car-free cobbled streets and charming alleys of Old Quebec, we love the Montmorency Falls just out of town. Higher, though admittedly narrower, than Niagara Falls, this beautiful waterfall is a year-round stunner. In summer rainbows hover in the mist. In winter the spray freezes into a mini-mountain of ice at its base. Nicknamed pain de sucre (sugarloaf), it is popular with ice-climbers.
