Why we choose Mandarin Oriental Singapore

This Mandarin Oriental has luxury in every detail plus iconic views of the Singapore skyline

  • Club rooms and suites get access to the exclusive Oriental Club
  • Get your namaste fix with the outdoor Yoga pavilion
  • Browse the 97-piece “Art of The Orient” fine art collection

The 25-year-old Mandarin Oriental, Singapore, isn’t having a quarter-life crisis; rather, it seems to be getting better. At the very least, it’s carved out a posh niche and isn’t moving. One obvious example is the eye-catching fine art collection scattered around the hotel, featuring works by award-winning Asian artists. Then there are more subtle details, like the fan-shaped atrium lobby that resembles the brand’s trademark and provides guests with unobstructed views from wherever they’re standing.

What you need to know about the hotel

Among the best in luxury hotels in Singapore when it comes to both location and first-class amenities

  • The 25-metre outdoor swimming pool and deck area, set against the vibrant Singapore city skyline, is a sophisticated retreat
  • MELT—The World Café specializes in international cuisine and chef-driven show kitchens that tantalize the eyes and the mouth
  • The Oriental Suite has a private residence feel, with floor-to-ceiling windows, two balconies, separate dining room for eight and glass-enclosed bathroom

The only Forbes Five Star hotel in Singapore, Mandarin Oriental offers 468 rooms and 59 suites—all with views of the ocean, harbor or city to write home about. The rooms are decorated in a decidedly contemporary style, featuring details like plush patterned carpets, marble-topped desks and headboards studded with Swarovski crystals.

At 527 rooms, it’s certainly a big—and busy—hotel. But if you don’t mind the hum of activity, you’ll reap big rewards in terms of facilities. There are five restaurants and two lounges ranging from an American steakhouse to Cantonese and Japanese cooking to Italian cuisine. Other highlights include a luxurious and award-winning spa, well-equipped fitness centre and outdoor yoga pavilion.

Where is it and what's nearby

The hotel is situated on picturesque Marina Bay, surrounded by Singapore’s top attractions and landmarks

  • Peranakan culture—which draws multiple Asian influences—is celebrated at the Peranakan Museum through embroidery, porcelainware and jewelry
  • The Orchard District is among the best areas for designer-label shopping, particularly Ngee Ann City, ION Orchard and Paragon
  • Tiong Bahru is a revitalized area filled with art deco apartments, conservation-status shophouses, hip hangouts and international gourmand delights

Singapore is a small but incredibly vibrant city-country that offers an astounding number of possibilities for diversion. There’s culture aplenty in the forms of museums and theatres, shopping to rival any major metropolis, old and new neighborhoods that give you a peek at the people who make up this diverse land and amazing culinary finds.

The Mandarin Oriental is perfectly situated to provide near-instant access to many of the top picks. Race fans love the fact that it’s next to turns 16 and 17 of the Singapore Grand Prix Night Race, and its Marina Bay setting means Singapore’s main dining and entertainment district is at the doorstep, including Theatres in the Bay and Orchard Road shopping.

How to enjoy Singapore

Perhaps it is Singapore’s location and status in the world of international trade, but there is something about this island-city-state that fizzes with the thrill of potential, a sense of audacity only matched by its architecture

  • Enjoy a show by local or international artists at the former Palladian mansion and parliament, The Arts House
  • See the sculpture First Generation at Cavenagh Bridge. It captures a group of five boys at play, diving into the Singapore River
  • Take in sweeping panoramas of the city with a ride in the Singapore Flyer, the world’s second highest ferris wheel at 541 feet

Singapore’s stunning skyline boasts an architecture that is almost sculptural. It is daring too. Take the Gardens by the Bay. This enormous park has an aerial walkway, towering Supertrees, a 100ft waterfall and fragrant, lush tropical gardens. For a sky-high view of the skyline, take a ride in one of the air-conditioned capsules of the Singapore Flyer. This giant Ferris wheel is 42 storeys high and affords wonderful views of the city and bay.

Orchard Road is Singapore’s upmarket shopping center. The three-mile street is a showcase for the world’s most exclusive brands and hosts six department stores and 22 malls. The most upscale of these are the Paragon and Ngee Ann City malls. A culinary capital with a large handful of Michelin Stars, choose from a wonderful range of Japanese, French, Malay and Chinese restaurants.

    When to visit Singapore

For high-octane glamour, catch the Singapore leg of the world Formula 1 Grand Prix racing circuit (usually September). The night-lit street track adds to the thrill and provides a wonderful backdrop to the parties that inevitably accompany this glitzy caravan.

  • We say

A classy Mandarin with a wonderful harbourside location.
