Why we choose One&Only Cape Town

There’s no shortage of awards for the resort’s spa, dining and overall awesome-ness

  • The spa can be found on its own private island
  • Shop Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Louboutin onsite at NEO Boutique
  • Dine at celebrated chef “Nobu” Matsuhisa’s only African restaurant

This place wasn’t just rated No. 1 in the city—or even the country. Travel+Leisure named it the top City Hotel in Africa and the Middle East. Considering the competition, that may be all you need to know about One&Only Cape Town.

What you need to know about the hotel

The resort is a destination unto itself, with remarkable cuisine and some of the most spacious rooms in the city

  • Day trips on luxurious yacht The Sherilyn may mean dropping anchor at Clifton Beach and sipping Champagne at sunset
  • Make a beeline for the Wine Loft, a tri-level gem with over 5,000 bottles, where sommeliers customize food and wine pairings
  • The two-story One Penthouse is considered South Africa’s most impressive accommodation, with wraparound terraces overlooking two World Heritage sites

Chic and contemporary, this opulent property is a much-needed addition to the hotel scene in Cape Town. The resort’s seven-story main building features 91 spacious rooms and suites, with 40 more (and a spa) located on two private islands within the marina. We found the rooms to be beautifully appointed, with sleek lines and dark African woods. There are three ultra-luxe suites, which we recommend for families or those who want an extra indulgent experience.

The resort landed master chef Nobuyuki ‘Nobu’ Matsuhisa’s first African restaurant and boasts two other notable eateries, as well as two lounges. There’s also a heated infinity-edge pool, very good spa, fitness center and classes—basically, every top-notch amenity you’d expect of a One&Only property.

Where is it and what's nearby

A downtown location with dramatic views to Table Mountain—one of the new 7 Wonders of Nature

  • The Great White Shark encounter in Gansbaai allows you to cage dive with these increasingly rare predators. Do you dare?
  • The most delicious way to explore the area is via a tasting tour of the Western Cape Winelands surrounding Cape Town
  • Get back to nature at Table Mountain, where you can climb, bike, hike or simply absorb the 1,500+ species of plants

Water, water everywhere best sums up One&Only Cape Town. Located on the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, the resort’s crescent shape provides gorgeous views of the water, as well as Table Mountain. But what make the location truly unique are the two private islands in the middle of the waterfront, which house 40 additional rooms and suites plus the award-winning spa.

In addition to being beautiful, the location establishes the resort as an ideal home base for exploring everything cosmopolitan Cape Town has to offer—like world-class art galleries. It’s also easy to schedule excursions to local vineyards or even a safari. History buffs can visit Robben Island, where former South African president Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, while nature lovers go whale watching and tour Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, with 528 hectares of indigenous South African plants.

How to enjoy Cape Town

You may see wild zebra grazing nonchalantly on the slopes of the skyline-dominating Table Mountain, yet somehow this doesn’t take away from the all-pervading chic of this stylish beach and party city, but simply adds to Cape Town’s exotic allure

  • Check out the local talent. Home grown designer labels including Errol Arendz and Sheray Bakos can be found on or near Long Street
  • Catch the sun in style – protected from the wind if not the chilly water – at the exclusive residential beach area of Clifton
  • Shell fish, white bait, fresh catch of the day, the colorful fishing village of Kalk Bay is well worth a trip for lunch; quirky boutiques promise one-of-a-kind finds

Vertigo is no excuse. The views of and from Table Mountain are so epic – and so completely define Cape Town – that they are well worth the fear. One of the best ways up is with a private guide. They’ll fill you in on the various flora and fauna on the way and then point out the sights from the top. Lion’s Head, Signal Hill, Robben Island. Bloubergstrand. Then ride the cable car down. If the fear thing does apply to you, you may want to miss this on a windy day.

Another stunning view of this Mayan pyramid-shaped mountain is from the sea. Charter a sunset cruise for amazing sights: champagne a must. Depending on the time of year, you may see penguins, dolphins, whales and sharks on this trip too. Nearby Stellenbosch is famed for fine wine and exceptional restaurants. Stellenzicht, Rustenberg and Veenwouden are particularly notable estates and well worth a tasting trip.
